An unexpectedly hard shot by Gert Ponk in the 5th minute of play forced ajax's goalkeeper Ronald Velthuis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peter Driel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ferry Veenker having to interfere. In the 16th minute, FC Skittles's Yorrick Stam seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Yorrick Stam the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of FC Skittles protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Yorrick Stam had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. When the match had been going on for 18 minutes, ajax's Jan-Joost Telkamp got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Ferry Veenker. Gio Kuys scored 1-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ronald Velthuis, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Karsten van Ankeren charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Karsten van Ankeren the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 24 played minutes ajax got a freekick which was hit by Karsten van Ankeren. The supporters of ajax booed when FC Skittles was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Niels Hansma didn't get a good kick on the ball. Karsten van Ankeren who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 27thth minute tested the skills of Ferry Veenker when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Julius Hendriks received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Ronald Velthuis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 32 minutes into the game, Roderick Scheper was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. ajax's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Skittles the free kick. After 32 played minutes ajax got a freekick which was hit by Roderick Scheper. After 33 minutes, Niels Hansma mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Skittles and the ajax players grew even worse after the yellow card. Niels Hansma kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. 36 minutes into the match, Peter Driel dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ferry Veenker, 2-1. Ronald Velthuis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Henry Koning in the 41st minute of the match. Gio Kuys sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of FC Skittles booed when ajax was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roderick Scheper didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gio Kuys to make the kick off. Mitchell Meinders hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. FC Skittles's Ferry Veenker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan-Joost Telkamp in the 56th minute of play. 67 minutes into the match, FC Skittles's goal looked a bit too open when Roderick Scheper came free, but Ferry Veenker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute Martin van Gessel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ferry Veenker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Gio Kuys came free, but Ronald Velthuis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 82 minutes ajax's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Henry Koning who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to FC Skittles's Otto Baptist getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Ronald Velthuis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gio Kuys, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gerard Genkenaar charged in rather forcefully in the 92nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gerard Genkenaar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to FC Skittles getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Gerard Genkenaar hit a great ball. If Peter Driel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. ajax's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
