Gido Heikens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gido Heikens dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Ivo Alkema took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Henk Akkerman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes in the game, Henk Akkerman fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Ivo Alkema having to interfere. Boukjan Bronkhorst fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gido Heikens having to interfere. If Boukjan Bronkhorst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Henk Akkerman to strike the kick off in the second half. Jan Brinks hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. In the 90th minute, Ron Holst got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
