Ferry Roeles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Sjef de Haan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 14th minute, German Frasco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Maarten Colen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Edgar Oblemenco made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maurits Ruben in the 17th minute of play forced FC Groenhoven's goalkeeper Edgar Oblemenco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 18th minute of the match MVV Maastricht got a corner. FC Groenhoven's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Maurits Ruben ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Maurits Ruben almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but FC Groenhoven's Edgar Oblemenco did a great save. Edgar Oblemenco made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Gilbert Fleur sent off a good shot on target. When Ahmet Hamdi Kocaker came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the FC Groenhoven fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ahmet Hamdi Kocaker couldn't finish the play. After 25 played minutes FC Groenhoven got a freekick which was hit by Lakis Sarris. Maurits Ruben scored 2-0 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Edgar Oblemenco, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 30th play minute Maarten Colen came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Edgar Oblemenco. 3-0. 36 minutes into the match, Bastiaan Kluivert notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of MVV Maastricht's Sjef de Haan. Sjef de Haan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. MVV Maastricht's Sjef de Haan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferry Roeles in the 38th minute of play. When Ernst van Bommel fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored MVV Maastricht's protests and gave Ernst van Bommel a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to MVV Maastricht getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Ernst van Bommel hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferry Roeles in the 42nd minute of play forced MVV Maastricht's goalkeeper Sjef de Haan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of FC Groenhoven booed when MVV Maastricht was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hans Roelofsen didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Ferry Roeles made the kick off in the second half. Ahmet Hamdi Kocaker kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. In the 55th minute, Ferry Roeles ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sjef de Haan was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. With a little luck, MVV Maastricht's Sjef de Haan got control of the ball when Ferry Roeles tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ferry Roeles's late challenge caught a MVV Maastricht's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ferry Roeles helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of MVV Maastricht booed when FC Groenhoven was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ferry Roeles didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 63rd match minute, MVV Maastricht was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maarten Colen to maneuver through the defense. When German Frasco fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Groenhoven's protests and gave German Frasco a yellow card for diving instead. After 70 played minutes FC Groenhoven got a freekick which was hit by German Frasco. Maurice Reintjes hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. With a little luck, MVV Maastricht's Sjef de Haan got control of the ball when Ferry Roeles tried to sneak it across the goal line. Edgar Oblemenco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maarten Colen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 97 minutes into the match, MVV Maastricht's goalkeeper Sjef de Haan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ferry Roeles. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the MVV Maastricht players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
