The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Piara Batistuta in the 8th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jaap van der Schans saved Westenenk from getting behind. When Valio Tammisto came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Westenenk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valio Tammisto couldn't finish the play. 15 minutes into the game, Bergeikers's Piara Batistuta nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jaap van der Schans made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Adolfo Luque hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. In the 21st minute, Piara Batistuta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 26 minutes into the match, Westenenk's goal looked a bit too open when Piara Batistuta came free, but Jaap van der Schans reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hernani Messias took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gervasio Lauaxeta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Adolfo Luque kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Westenenk's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
