Emiel Huiting showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edgar Degens in the 3rd minute of the match. Emiel Huiting showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edgar Degens, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Mark de Zwaan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Henk Kikkert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Young Boys Enschede's Jacco Heesen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Billy Das in the 25th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as VV Zonnedael's Henk Kikkert slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jacco Heesen. That made the score 2-0 after 26 minutes of play. An unexpected shot in the 32nd minute by Henk Kikkert got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Edgar Degens managed to get in a good position for a shot. Young Boys Enschede's supporters rose to their feet, but Edgar Degens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emiel Huiting breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 39 minutes into the match, Young Boys Enschede's goalkeeper Jacco Heesen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Henk Kikkert. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Roderick Eringa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacco Heesen having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Henk Kikkert in the 59th minute of play forced Young Boys Enschede's goalkeeper Jacco Heesen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by VV Zonnedael's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Harmen Scheffer was slow to take the kick. During this time Young Boys Enschede's players had a chance to rest. Harmen Scheffer made a great header on Young Boys Enschede's corner, it was just that VV Zonnedael's Emiel Huiting managed to reach the ball for a save.
