With a little luck, Marsa whitestars's Alex Mumford got control of the ball when Julian Degabriele tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Julian Degabriele managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pembroke's supporters rose to their feet, but Julian Degabriele was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alex Mumford breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 17th minute Reuben Ambrogio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alex Mumford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 17 minutes, Leon Tonna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Marsa whitestars and the Pembroke players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Marsa whitestars's Nicholas Micallef got a free kick in the 32nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Marsa whitestars's zone, Reuben Ambrogio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alex Mumford came out of the goal and Reuben Ambrogio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Julian Degabriele received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Alex Mumford tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
