Martin Dougall showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ryan Schranz in the 18th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ryan Schranz in the 20th minute of play forced Cottonera Corinthians's goalkeeper Martin Dougall to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 24 minutes into the game, Karl Cortis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cottonera Corinthians's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave San Lawrenz Athletics the free kick. Isaac Demicoli might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Martin Dougall. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Isaac Demicoli ran back to his position shaking his head. Michele Cini struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Jeremy Montalto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cottonera Corinthians. Martin Dougall took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ryan Schranz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Martin Dougall made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isaac Demicoli in the 47th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Isaac Demicoli to make the kick off.
