A collision led to Sputnik VII getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. William Scicluna hit a great ball. Sputnik VII's Toivo Puistola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jake Drago in the 13th minute of play. David Musu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Steve Grech Cumbo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Portuguesa Maltesa's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Etienne De Battista 20 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. If Etienne De Battista had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. David Musu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. David Musu struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Steve Grech Cumbo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sputnik VII. The audience thought a goal was coming when David Musu got free with Steve Grech Cumbo in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. David Musu was extremely unlucky when he, in the 40th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Sputnik VII's Toivo Puistola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joshua Preca in the 43rd minute of play. After some careless play in the Sputnik VII defense, Ryan Laus kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Toivo Puistola. The Sputnik VII fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Toivo Puistola should have stopped the shot. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Etienne De Battista made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Ryan Mugliett hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joshua Preca in the 55th minute of play forced Sputnik VII's goalkeeper Toivo Puistola to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nathan Bongailas took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Steve Grech Cumbo. Steve Grech Cumbo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Jake Drago sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Steve Grech Cumbo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Etienne De Battista went, in the 72nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. Steve Grech Cumbo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Etienne De Battista in the 75th minute of the match. Aidan Friggieri kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Toivo Puistola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joshua Preca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 87th minute Joshua Preca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toivo Puistola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 91 minutes into the match, Sputnik VII's goalkeeper Toivo Puistola had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ryan Laus. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sputnik VII fans cheered their team off the field, for while Portuguesa Maltesa had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
