In the 6th minute, Jonathan Xuereb ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Vincent Baldacchino was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Kenneth Borda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Vincent Baldacchino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vincent Baldacchino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kenneth Borda in the 11th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, Jonathan Xuereb notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of San Ġiljan Youths's Vincent Baldacchino. Vincent Baldacchino was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jonathan Xuereb took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vincent Baldacchino. Vincent Baldacchino dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. Vincent Baldacchino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kenneth Borda in the 21st minute of play. Vincent Baldacchino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonathan Xuereb, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. After the first half HIBERNIANS F.C. were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jonathan Xuereb stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Leon Sladden blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Aidan Delia having to make a save. 52 minutes into the match, San Ġiljan Youths's goalkeeper Vincent Baldacchino had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jonathan Xuereb. Jonathan Xuereb recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Leon Sladden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Xuereb took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vincent Baldacchino. Vincent Baldacchino dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. After 74 minutes, Kenneth Borda mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the HIBERNIANS F.C. and the San Ġiljan Youths players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of San Ġiljan Youths booed when HIBERNIANS F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kenneth Borda didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leon Sladden fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aidan Delia having to interfere. After a rather tough play, San Ġiljan Youths's Ryan Scicluna got a free kick in the 85th minute. If Jonathan Xuereb had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jonathan Xuereb sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. HIBERNIANS F.C.'s supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
