The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the game, George Amato Gauci recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Andrea Bonello. George Amato Gauci showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Andrea Bonello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Amato Gauci in the 10th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Laandaas's Bernard Sapiano sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Andrea Bonello narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With his leg Andrea Bonello managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when Laandaas's Bernard Sapiano fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Glenn Schembri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bernard Sapiano in the 21stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Andrea Bonello, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 24 minutes into the game, Bernard Sapiano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Laandaas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mġarr the free kick. Bernard Sapiano hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Laandaas's Sean Portelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Charles Gellel in the 25th minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Charles Gellel made a precise shot to the right of Sean Portelli. Laandaas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Charles Gellel charged in rather forcefully in the 36th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Charles Gellel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 43rd minute, Bernard Sapiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. George Amato Gauci recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. George Amato Gauci was the one to do the kick off. When Bernard Sapiano came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Laandaas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernard Sapiano couldn't finish the play. Laandaas's George Amato Gauci got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 69 minutes into the match, Mġarr's goal looked a bit too open when Bernard Sapiano came free, but Andrea Bonello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Andrea Bonello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Amato Gauci in the 71st minute of play. In the 73rd minute, Bernard Sapiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 79th minute Bernard Sapiano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andrea Bonello saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Glenn Schembri succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 82nd playminute. If Bernard Sapiano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sean Portelli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Charles Gellel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When George Amato Gauci came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Laandaas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that George Amato Gauci couldn't finish the play. Mġarr were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Laandaas's much stronger midfield.
