Basingstoke's defense didn't have a chance, in the 15th minute, when Yannick Fürstenberg scored to the left of an out of position Rupert Joy, making the score, 4-0. 18 minutes into the match, Basingstoke's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Fabricius came free, but Rupert Joy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Basingstoke's defense didn't have a chance, in the 20th minute, when Jan Fabricius scored to the left of an out of position Rupert Joy, making the score, 5-0. Jan Fabricius succeeded in the game's 26th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 6-0. Jan Fabricius sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Ollie Winterburn fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Basingstoke's protests and gave Ollie Winterburn a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Basingstoke getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Ollie Winterburn hit a great ball. Jan Fabricius struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Rupert Joy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Ollie Winterburn kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jan Fabricius in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rupert Joy prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jean-Claude Faehlmann in the 56th minute of play forced Basingstoke's goalkeeper Rupert Joy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bob Hößler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rupert Joy having to interfere. The Hull City fans' excitement grew in the 62nd match minute when Hull City's Jan Fabricius looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 7-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yannick Fürstenberg in the 65th minute of play forced Basingstoke's goalkeeper Rupert Joy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rupert Joy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Karlheinz König, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hull City's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
