After a defensive mix-up in Newcastle United's zone, Jan Fabricius stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Félix Göbl came out of the goal and Jan Fabricius tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Newcastle United getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Florian Schmit hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Hull City's Andre Beaumont got a free kick in the 9th minute. If Jan Werner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. William Feuerstein showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lars Bruckmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Newcastle United's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Feldmann in the 25th minute. The corner ended in Daniel Feldmann almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Hull City's William Feuerstein did a great save. Daniel Feldmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Feuerstein having to interfere. A sloppy throw-in by Darius Kemmer in the 29th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Newcastle United's Lars Axmann. 32 minutes into the match, Hull City's goal looked a bit too open when Lars Bruckmann came free, but William Feuerstein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 33 minutes of play, Hull City's Jan Fabricius made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Félix Göbl was left in no man's land by his defense there! Newcastle United's Gaston von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jan Fabricius took the ball and in the 40 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Félix Göbl. Félix Göbl dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. 46 minutes into the game, Andre Beaumont threw the ball into play from the sideline. Newcastle United's Lars Axmann quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The Newcastle United players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Hull City were winning 0-2.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jan Fabricius stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Félix Göbl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jan Fabricius, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Jan Fabricius had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Yannick Fürstenberg hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Christof Heisenberg kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Florian Schmit struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. William Feuerstein didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newcastle United. Hull City's Yannick Fürstenberg got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Newcastle United's Félix Göbl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan Fabricius in the 73rd minute of play. In the 77th minute Karlheinz König shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Félix Göbl saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With 81 minutes on the clock, Jonas Zaugg commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 81st minute, one of Newcastle United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Newcastle United. In the 83rd minute there was a penalty for Hull City. Yannick Fürstenberg stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Félix Göbl. 0-3. In the 87th minute of the match Hull City got a corner. Newcastle United's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Yannick Fürstenberg ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Yannick Fürstenberg got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Félix Göbl quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Félix Göbl stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jan Fabricius's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Karlheinz König sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Hull City's Yannick Fürstenberg got a free kick in the 95th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Gaston von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newcastle United's supporters rose to their feet, but Gaston von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. William Feuerstein breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
