The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Yves Brunner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Ezra Archambault had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 15 played minutes Bootle AFC got a freekick which was hit by Scott Rüegg. Elia Schurti was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 16th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. FC Vaduz's Wolfgang Donath played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ezra Archambault in the 19th minute of play. Urs Walch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Isidor Emmenegger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Louis Buob's late challenge caught a FC Vaduz's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Louis Buob helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of FC Vaduz booed when Bootle AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Louis Buob didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 26thth minute of the game Urs Walch who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Bootle AFC's Isidor Emmenegger was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 27th minute of the game. One of Bootle AFC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FC Vaduz:s goal. If Urs Walch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Wolfgang Donath showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ezra Archambault, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Yves Brunner managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Vaduz's supporters rose to their feet, but Yves Brunner was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Isidor Emmenegger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 43 minutes, Urs Walch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Vaduz's supporters crossed their fingers, but Urs Walch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Urs Walch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Isidor Emmenegger read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. FC Vaduz's Urs Walch got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.

The wind increased when Urs Walch made the kick off in the second half. Wolfgang Donath showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Beatus Finger, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gordon Banholzer during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 55th minute, Gordon Banholzer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. FC Vaduz's Wolfgang Donath played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Beatus Finger in the 64th minute of play. Beatus Finger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wolfgang Donath having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beatus Finger in the 75th minute of play forced FC Vaduz's goalkeeper Wolfgang Donath to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Urs Walch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Isidor Emmenegger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ezra Archambault in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wolfgang Donath prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Urs Walch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 92nd minute, Yves Brunner got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the final whistle sounded FC Vaduz left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Bootle AFC.
