If Francesco Scafati had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 6th minute Demetrio Federici shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fulvio Iori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When San Michele's Demetrio Federici in the 7th minute got a chance for a shot 7th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. An unexpectedly hard shot by Demetrio Federici in the 12th minute of play forced Castagnaretta's goalkeeper Fulvio Iori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Demetrio Federici fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fulvio Iori having to interfere. Bruno Ferreri sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Frank Pelati hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Alessandro Olmi might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Carter Pasin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alessandro Olmi ran back to his position shaking his head. 29 minutes into the match, Eraldo Tabacchi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fulvio Iori, 1-0. If Alessandro Olmi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind San Michele's goalkeeper Carter Pasin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 41 minutes, Bruno Ferreri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Castagnaretta's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bruno Ferreri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Carter Pasin made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Frank Pelati sent off a good shot on target. In the 54th minute, Demetrio Federici hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee gave Castagnaretta a penalty, 59 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Ettore Biscotti, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of San Michele's Carter Pasin. 1-1. Frank Pelati's late challenge caught a San Michele's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Frank Pelati helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of San Michele booed when Castagnaretta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frank Pelati didn't get a good kick on the ball. 76 minutes into the match, Castagnaretta's goal looked a bit too open when Demetrio Federici came free, but Fulvio Iori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 81st minute, Francesco Scafati hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpected shot in the 91st minute by Bruno Ferreri got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Alessandro Olmi took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Carter Pasin. Carter Pasin dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. The Castagnaretta supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Castagnaretta would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
