The referee ignored U.S QUERCIAIOLA's protests and gave Dennis Puglielli a yellow card for diving instead. In the 21st match minute, U.S QUERCIAIOLA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dennis Puglielli to maneuver through the defense. Arrigo Petito took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ernesto Rossetti, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 41 played minutes U.S QUERCIAIOLA got a freekick which was hit by Cosimo Faieta. When Biagio Cimino came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Catanzaro fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Biagio Cimino couldn't finish the play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ernesto Rossetti to strike the kick off in the second half. If Cosimo Faieta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 57 minutes, Claudio Spitaleri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U.S QUERCIAIOLA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claudio Spitaleri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Arrigo Petito made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Alberigo Brillante sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Catanzaro getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Ernesto Rossetti hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudio Spitaleri in the 71st minute of play forced Catanzaro's goalkeeper Fulvio Calabrese to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Claudio Spitaleri came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the U.S QUERCIAIOLA fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claudio Spitaleri couldn't finish the play. U.S QUERCIAIOLA's Ciccio Cara got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ernesto Rossetti might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arrigo Petito. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ernesto Rossetti ran back to his position shaking his head. The long shot by Enrico Cordone in the 81st minute really tested Arrigo Petito's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. In the 90th minute, Amedeo Del Vecchio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, U.S QUERCIAIOLA's Dennis Puglielli got a free kick in the 96th minute. The Catanzaro supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Catanzaro would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
