San Lorenzo's Cristiano Del Papa couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 8th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Lions. Dave Ciaccia took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dino Improta. Dino Improta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Arrigo Fantini sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Arrigo Fantini received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Filippo Altobelli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, San Lorenzo's Cesare De Santis got a free kick in the 19th minute. When Arrigo Fantini came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Lions fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arrigo Fantini couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Francesco Tosi managed to get in a good position for a shot. San Lorenzo's supporters rose to their feet, but Francesco Tosi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dino Improta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 27 minutes into the game, Arrigo Fantini cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Filippo Altobelli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After having played for 30 minutes, Dave Ciaccia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. San Lorenzo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dave Ciaccia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Lions's zone, Francesco Tosi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dino Improta came out of the goal and Francesco Tosi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lions's Dino Improta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dave Ciaccia in the 33rd minute of play. In the 47th minute, Cristoforo Galdi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dave Ciaccia in the 49th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dino Improta saved Lions from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Arrigo Fantini made a kick off. Cesare De Santis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dave Ciaccia got free with Dino Improta in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dave Ciaccia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dino Improta having to interfere. Dino Improta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Francesco Tosi, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Francesco Tosi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
