The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fortunato Piacentini made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Daniele Di Ruscio sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to A.S. MOLFETTA getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Arturo Colle hit a great ball. Alessandro Simonetti made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Federico Cirelli in the 10th minute of play. After 13 minutes of play, Rieti FC's Daniele Di Ruscio made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fortunato Piacentini was left in no man's land by his defense there! 17 minutes into the match, A.S. MOLFETTA's Federico Cirelli sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alessandro Simonetti narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 22 played minutes Rieti FC got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arpaia. Fortunato Piacentini showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Fabiani in the 25th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alberto Fabiani in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fortunato Piacentini prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Abdul Aziz van de Meerakker hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in A.S. MOLFETTA's zone, Daniele Di Ruscio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fortunato Piacentini came out of the goal and Daniele Di Ruscio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 38th minute, Alberto Fabiani reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Fortunato Piacentini. The goal made the score 2-0. In the 42nd minute, Mikkel Frøseth got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Federico Cirelli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Federico Cirelli to make the kick off. After 52 played minutes A.S. MOLFETTA got a freekick which was hit by Arturo Colle. 57 minutes into the match, A.S. MOLFETTA's goal looked a bit too open when Daniele Di Ruscio came free, but Fortunato Piacentini reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 60th minute, Mikkel Frøseth got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 65th minute, Abdul Aziz van de Meerakker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 67th minute Daniele Di Ruscio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fortunato Piacentini saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 68th minute, Damiano Gaspari hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Mikkel Frøseth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cesare Laudadio kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. Fortunato Piacentini made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Fabiani in the 86th minute of play. When Alberto Fabiani came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Rieti FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Fabiani couldn't finish the play. When Rieti FC's Alberto Fabiani in the 97th minute got a chance for a shot 97th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye A.S. MOLFETTA's goalie prevented a goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the A.S. MOLFETTA players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Rieti FC.
