In the 18th minute, Maksimir's Antonio Hrste dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. 21 minutes into the match, Bo Cantona had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Barlas Özerdal. Maksimir's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bo Cantona was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The supporters of Jastreb booed when Maksimir was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trpimir Smilčić didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Börje Forsberg came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Jastreb fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Börje Forsberg couldn't finish the play. In the 26th minute, Antonio Hrste got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Antonio Hrste came free with the goalkeeper in the 26th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Navarro Montoya could save by the left post. Navarro Montoya stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Antonio Hrste's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. 33 minutes into the match, Börje Forsberg notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Maksimir's Barlas Özerdal. Barlas Özerdal was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sixto Figueroa hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Jastreb defense, Antonio Hrste kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Navarro Montoya. The Jastreb fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Navarro Montoya should have stopped the shot. If Antonio Hrste had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luka Mata stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 51 minutes, Miran Tudor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jastreb's supporters crossed their fingers, but Miran Tudor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rogelio Etxepare hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Maksimir's Marin Kuharić was substituted for Miodrag Rozga. 56 minutes in the game Luka Mata did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Börje Forsberg. Luka Mata in the 58thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Barlas Özerdal, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 61st minute, Ilko Smoje reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Barlas Özerdal. The goal made the score 2-3. Maksimir's Mateo Kukoč was substituted for Gradimir Antonić. Luka Mata received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Barlas Özerdal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jastreb made a substitution. Bo Ronaldo replaced Bo Cantona.
