Vivien Lapeyre in the 12thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Yves Davesne, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ranquet's Yves Davesne proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Ranquet from getting a goal against them. 15 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ranquet's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Antonio Odisio was slow to take the kick. During this time marseille's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on marseille's corner Antonio Odisio fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Yves Davesne quite easily take care of the ball. Ranquet's Gustave Verot got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Vivien Lapeyre had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gustave Verot in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roger Moutier saved marseille from getting behind. Yves Davesne made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vivien Lapeyre in the 25th minute. Vivien Lapeyre could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Yves Davesne made a huge save. Roger Moutier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustave Verot in the 33rd minute of the match. Tommy Delelis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th match minute, Ranquet was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jason Delporte to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of marseille booed when Ranquet was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jason Delporte didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as marseille's Vivien Lapeyre slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Yves Davesne. That made the score 2-0 after 46 minutes of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Herbert Morard charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Herbert Morard the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Ranquet getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Herbert Morard hit a great ball. 57 minutes into the match, marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Gustave Verot came free, but Roger Moutier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vivien Lapeyre received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Yves Davesne tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Vivien Lapeyre had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tommy Delelis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yves Davesne having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Vivien Lapeyre managed to get in a good position for a shot. marseille's supporters rose to their feet, but Vivien Lapeyre was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yves Davesne breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vivien Lapeyre received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Yves Davesne tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pierre-Emmanuel Sénac hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. There was no doubt that marseille were the better team. marseille's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
