Paul-Émile Mathelin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Émeric Delaroche in the 62nd minute of the match. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by Stade Rennais's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Émeric Delaroche was slow to take the kick. During this time Carcot's players had a chance to rest. 66 minutes into the match, Carcot's goal looked a bit too open when Jean-Paul Coroller came free, but Mohamed Ruelle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
