Mathys Turban was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 18th minute Wawrzyniec Drugi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mathys Turban saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mathys Turban made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aureo Toledo in the 19th minute of play. Marius Do hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute, Philippe Sévestre ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hugues Lahousse was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Hugues Lahousse made an important save on a dangerous shot by Philippe Sévestre in the 28th minute. When the match clock showed 30 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Aureo Toledo sped through Santos's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mathys Turban. When Eugene Porter fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored marseille's protests and gave Eugene Porter a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Santos booed when marseille was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eugene Porter didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Byström in the 40th minute of play forced Santos's goalkeeper Mathys Turban to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Victor Champenois received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Hugues Lahousse came out and tried to block the shot, but Victor Champenois slotted it home off the left post making it 2-2 in the 42nd minute. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Victor Champenois to make the kick off. A collision led to Santos getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Melvin Viallard hit a great ball. With a little luck, Santos's Mathys Turban got control of the ball when Máximo Decimo tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fotis Kouklakis got free with Mathys Turban in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 57 minutes into the match, marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Philippe Sévestre came free, but Hugues Lahousse reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santos's Mathys Turban played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eugene Porter in the 58th minute of play. Mathys Turban showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wawrzyniec Drugi in the 80th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Philippe Sévestre's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hugues Lahousse was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. Hugues Lahousse made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Victor Champenois in the 88th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Wawrzyniec Drugi in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mathys Turban prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Philippe Sévestre managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos's supporters rose to their feet, but Philippe Sévestre was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hugues Lahousse breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
