Oton Ruiz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gaizka Revuelta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gaizka Revuelta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abelardo Ecija having to interfere. In the 29th minute Oton Ruiz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abelardo Ecija saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Isauro Aznar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jago Morientes in the 30th minute of the match. Abelardo Ecija showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oton Ruiz, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 37th minute, Teodor Zapata hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 38 minutes into the match, Moncada's goalkeeper Abelardo Ecija had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gaizka Revuelta. 40 minutes into the game, Leocadio Gasso was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Real Zaragoza's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Moncada the free kick. In the 40th minute, Leocadio Gasso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Jago Morientes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Isauro Aznar was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When Manolito Mora fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Isauro Aznar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jago Morientes's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. After having played for 83 minutes, Oton Ruiz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Real Zaragoza's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oton Ruiz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Real Zaragoza's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
