Samuel Barro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Valdo Flores, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. When Ginés Herrera came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Santa Maria Del Espino fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ginés Herrera couldn't finish the play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Amaro Garate in the 53rd minute of play forced Santa Maria Del Espino's goalkeeper Anxel Jofre to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 67th match minute, Azanza was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filiberto Cienfuegos to maneuver through the defense. Azanza's attentive Montay Alarcon managed to snatch the ball when Veto Casado made a throw-in in the 69th minute of the game. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Santa Maria Del Espino eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
