After a rather tough play, RCD Mallorca's Koldo Lagunas got a free kick in the 26th minute. In the 32nd minute, Abelardo Helguera ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sinforoso Guasch was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Romano Baños to make the kick off. After 55 minutes, Filomeno Dulce mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atlético Tiense C.F. and the RCD Mallorca players grew even worse after the yellow card. Romano Baños sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 70 minutes into the match, RCD Mallorca's goalkeeper Luis-Antonio Olano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Filomeno Dulce. Luis-Antonio Olano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hussein Aranzubia in the 75th minute of play. If Abelardo Helguera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 80th minute, Romo Quijana ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sinforoso Guasch was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. The referee gave Melkor Gasso a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. For all the effort they put into the match, the Atlético Tiense C.F. players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
