After a rather tough play, Schwarz Rot Cannstatt's Ingmar Stemberg got a free kick in the 8th minute. The audience was convinced that Ingmar Reimann's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ubbo Grunewald was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Ubbo Grunewald tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Konrad Gielnik was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the game, Karsten Schauberger was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Galatasaray Istanbul's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schwarz Rot Cannstatt the free kick. Galatasaray Istanbul's Tammo Bunje played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Walther Sponagl in the 71st minute of play. Mika Kirchhoff took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tammo Bunje. Tammo Bunje dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Atze Fellinger during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 79th match minute, Schwarz Rot Cannstatt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Atze Fellinger to maneuver through the defense. Ingmar Stemberg was shown his second yellow card after 81 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The supporters of Galatasaray Istanbul booed when Schwarz Rot Cannstatt was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ingmar Stemberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Konrad Gielnik had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Schwarz Rot Cannstatt's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
