In the 3rd minute Philipp Zimmermann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erich Neumer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 5th minute Hinrich Wefing shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Torger Waibel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Rot-Weiss Essen defense, Arno Graf kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Erich Neumer. The Rot-Weiss Essen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Erich Neumer should have stopped the shot. In the 30th minute, Meyerdamm's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lothar Pazdera fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 36th minute, Philipp Zimmermann got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Arno Graf sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Erich Neumer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arno Graf in the 42nd minute of the match. In the 43rd match minute, Meyerdamm was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Philipp Zimmermann to maneuver through the defense. Erich Neumer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Markus Meissner, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Rot-Weiss Essen's zone, Arno Graf stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erich Neumer came out of the goal and Arno Graf tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hinrich Wefing made a kick off. Erich Neumer was out of position in the 52 minute of play, and Arno Graf capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Arno Graf really showed his touch with that goal: 0-3. If Markus Meissner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Erich Neumer made a fantastic save in the 63rd minute, when Markus Meissner sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Philipp Zimmermann got free with Erich Neumer in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Erich Neumer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Philipp Zimmermann in the 68th minute. A collision led to Rot-Weiss Essen getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Leik Schneidereit hit a great ball. If Philipp Zimmermann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Erich Neumer made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Philipp Zimmermann sent off a good shot on target. When Philipp Zimmermann came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the Meyerdamm fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Philipp Zimmermann couldn't finish the play. Hinrich Wefing took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Torger Waibel. Torger Waibel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. After a defensive mix-up in Rot-Weiss Essen's zone, Heinz Heinzmann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erich Neumer came out of the goal and Heinz Heinzmann tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rot-Weiss Essen's Erich Neumer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arno Graf in the 92nd minute of play. If Philipp Zimmermann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle sounded Meyerdamm left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Rot-Weiss Essen.
