Arnold Leupold's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bernhard Hespers read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. After having played for 23 minutes, Atze Gödtel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SSV SCHALKE KNAPPEN 04's supporters crossed their fingers, but Atze Gödtel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Arnold Leupold had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnold Leupold received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Bernhard Hespers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 27th match minute, Roter Stern Bonn FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carsten Schmotz to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Suhrke in the 28th minute of play forced Roter Stern Bonn FC's goalkeeper Bernhard Hespers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bernhard Hespers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnold Leupold, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. In the 35th minute, Jan Guzikowski got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Herbert Suhrke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernhard Hespers having to interfere. In the 42nd minute Arnold Leupold shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernhard Hespers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The wind increased when Arnold Leupold made the kick off in the second half. The referee ignored Roter Stern Bonn FC's protests and gave Jan Guzikowski a yellow card for diving instead.
