Hilmar Häfner made in the 4th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Erik Naber immediately put the ball in play. When Adi Bertelmann came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the SV Sankt Märgen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adi Bertelmann couldn't finish the play. After 11 minutes, Adi Bertelmann mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SV Sankt Märgen and the Esshoff players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 13 minutes of play, Esshoff's Johannes Dormuth made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Branko Klages was left in no man's land by his defense there! Branko Klages made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abi Schöneweiß in the 24th minute of play. The supporters of SV Sankt Märgen booed when Esshoff was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Xavier Oestmann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ruben Andrade kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Xavier Oestmann in the 29th minute of play forced SV Sankt Märgen's goalkeeper Branko Klages to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Adi Bertelmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Esshoff's Adrian Katz got control of the ball when Adi Bertelmann tried to sneak it across the goal line. Adrian Katz was out of position in the 42 minute of play, and Adi Bertelmann capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Adi Bertelmann really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The attack was good, but when Adi Bertelmann in the 52nd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. 55 minutes into the match, Adi Bertelmann had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Adrian Katz. Esshoff's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Adi Bertelmann was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Branko Klages showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abi Schöneweiß, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Adi Bertelmann got in the 85th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Adrian Katz handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. Egidius Faenger charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Egidius Faenger the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Esshoff getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Egidius Faenger hit a great ball. The SV Sankt Märgen players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
