The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Brian Christen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kjeld Starke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 11th minute, Sascha Gauger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Berthold Pretzer was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Joseph Labinsky showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 15 minute of play. Kjeld Starke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brian Christen having to interfere. After 28 played minutes VFL Rheine got a freekick which was hit by Rodolfo Posner. An unexpectedly hard shot by Curt Polster in the 30th minute of play forced VFL Rheine's goalkeeper Berthold Pretzer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Joseph Labinsky got free with Berthold Pretzer in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorg Borke in the 35th minute of play forced Bayern Munchen's goalkeeper Brian Christen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Kjeld Starke came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the VFL Rheine fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kjeld Starke couldn't finish the play. Stephan Ustorf's late challenge caught a VFL Rheine's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stephan Ustorf helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Bayern Munchen getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Stephan Ustorf hit a great ball. Götz Nuth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brian Christen having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Curt Polster made a kick off. Berthold Pretzer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Curt Polster, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. The supporters of VFL Rheine booed when Bayern Munchen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stephan Ustorf didn't get a good kick on the ball. 60 minutes into the match, Curt Polster notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of VFL Rheine's Berthold Pretzer. Berthold Pretzer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After taking down the ball on Bayern Munchen's corner Ludwig Gauger fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Berthold Pretzer quite easily take care of the ball. If Kjeld Starke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 83rd minute Kjeld Starke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brian Christen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 86th minute, Kjeld Starke got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Kjeld Starke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 96 minutes into the game, Axel Schnoor was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bayern Munchen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave VFL Rheine the free kick.
