Ralph Fohler blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Noel Bär having to make a save. Horst Gehb recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of dortmund booed when Dy Dresden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jens Lamwersiek didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when August Korff stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute, Pinkus Bürklen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 58th minute, Josef Terstappen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dy Dresden's Steffen Schug played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Denis Lange in the 64th minute of play. 67 minutes into the game, Fabian Boedefeld was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dy Dresden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave dortmund the free kick. After 67 played minutes Dy Dresden got a freekick which was hit by Fabian Boedefeld. If Fabian Boedefeld had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dariusz Burghausen kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. dortmund's Noel Bär proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save dortmund from getting a goal against them. 80 minutes into the game, Fabian Boedefeld recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Noel Bär. Fabian Boedefeld showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-1. Dy Dresden's Horst Gehb got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in dortmund's zone, Horst Gehb stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Noel Bär came out of the goal and Horst Gehb tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
