If Thomas Hülsen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Hendrix Schulze-Boysen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leo Grünewald having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Christof Werlich to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in FC Schalke GE 04's zone, Jonas Petzolt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leo Grünewald came out of the goal and Jonas Petzolt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Christof Werlich received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Berti Lührmann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 58th minute, Manuel Gless ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Berti Lührmann was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Hendrix Schulze-Boysen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Leo Grünewald tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hendrix Schulze-Boysen in the 67th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Leo Grünewald saved FC Schalke GE 04 from getting behind. Christof Werlich scored 2-1 in the 69th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Berti Lührmann, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jonas Petzolt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leo Grünewald having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thomas Hülsen got free with Leo Grünewald in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Hendrix Schulze-Boysen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 97th minute, Manuel Gless left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Schalke GE 04 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1.
