The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Artur Bomm could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 9th minute of the match, but Konrad Andrae made a huge save. 13 minutes into the match, Diyarbakır Spor's goal looked a bit too open when Benedikt Nogly came free, but Konrad Andrae reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 14th match minute, Diyarbakır Spor was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hannes Hamann to maneuver through the defense. Artur Bomm recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 17th minute Christian Schuler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Konrad Andrae saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hannes Hamann's late challenge caught a Kattendorf FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hannes Hamann helped the player get up and apologised. Artur Bomm charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Artur Bomm the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 19th minute, Artur Bomm hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Christian Schuler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Konrad Andrae tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Artur Bomm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Konrad Andrae having to interfere. 33 minutes into the match, Diyarbakır Spor's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Schuler came free, but Konrad Andrae reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ralf Noce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Artur Bomm who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 41stth minute tested the skills of Konrad Andrae when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Robert Marquardt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Noce in the 44th minute of play. The supporters of Diyarbakır Spor booed when Kattendorf FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Artur Bomm didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Christian Schuler was the one to do the kick off. The Kattendorf FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Robert Marquardt should have stopped the shot.
