In the 9th minute, Uli Güde hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Louis Heil stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Markus Pletz's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. With a little luck, Baier Leverkusen's Niko Frijia got control of the ball when Uli Güde tried to sneak it across the goal line. Louis Heil showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Markus Pletz in the 17th minute of the match. Niko Frijia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rob Jennen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robbie Eumann in the 26th minute of play forced Baier Leverkusen's goalkeeper Niko Frijia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Baier Leverkusen's Niko Frijia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rob Jennen in the 29th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Baier Leverkusen's goalkeeper Niko Frijia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rüdiger Bay. Niko Frijia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rob Jennen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 33 played minutes Baier Leverkusen got a freekick which was hit by Patrick Oliver Kurbjuweit. The supporters of Orleta Deblin booed when Baier Leverkusen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patrick Oliver Kurbjuweit didn't get a good kick on the ball. Niko Frijia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sixten Beauregard in the 42nd minute. If Sascha Slesar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 46 minutes, Markus Pletz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Baier Leverkusen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Markus Pletz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

After 61 played minutes Baier Leverkusen got a freekick which was hit by Mesut Knopf. Niko Frijia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Balko Wruck in the 62nd minute of play. The throw-in from Robbie Eumann in the 79th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Baier Leverkusen's Mesut Knopf. When Bülent Abts fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Baier Leverkusen's protests and gave Bülent Abts a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Baier Leverkusen's Bülent Abts got a free kick in the 88th minute. 92 minutes into the match, Baier Leverkusen's goal looked a bit too open when Sixten Beauregard came free, but Niko Frijia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Sixten Beauregard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
