After a defensive mix-up in Nordholt FSV's zone, Reimar Specht stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Winfried Gref came out of the goal and Reimar Specht tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. VFL Stade's Lars Marczinke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Philip Gögge in the 30th minute of play. Winfried Gref made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Akira Küpper in the 39th minute of play. Marco Kala received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Winfried Gref tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Philip Gögge made the kick off in the second half. After 53 played minutes, Nordholt FSV's Javier Capezzuto shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lars Marczinke came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Nordholt FSV reached it. Akira Küpper could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Winfried Gref made a huge save. Fred Kummel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lars Marczinke having to interfere. After 65th play minutes Philip Gögge shot 1-0, a short shot which went by Lars Marczinke and just under the crossbar into goal. 68 minutes into the match, VFL Stade's goal looked a bit too open when Philip Gögge came free, but Lars Marczinke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 71st minute Philip Gögge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lars Marczinke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fred Kummel in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lars Marczinke saved VFL Stade from getting behind. After 75 played minutes Nordholt FSV got a freekick which was hit by Javier Capezzuto. After recieving a nice pass, VFL Stade's Traugott Gerber tried to score from far away in the 76th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Damir Waidler during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nordholt FSV's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
