Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Tim Gottwald took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 3rd minute of the match Artur Kahlhofen sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Achim Pfennig skillfully saved the ball. After 7 played minutes 1. FC Hannover got a freekick which was hit by Tim Gottwald. The crowd rose to their feet as Ruben Sommer kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Achim Pfennig. That made the score 1-0 in the 9 minute of play. Johann Werger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Achim Pfennig having to interfere. In the 17th minute Ruben Sommer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Achim Pfennig saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tim Gottwald kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. In the 28th minute Tim Gottwald shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Connor Kohlert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Achim Pfennig was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Artur Kahlhofen. Tim Gottwald recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Udo Bankesch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Johann Werger might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Achim Pfennig. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Johann Werger ran back to his position shaking his head. 1. FC Hannover's Achim Pfennig played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ruben Sommer in the 43rd minute of play. After some careless play in the 1. FC Hannover defense, Ruben Sommer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Achim Pfennig. The 1. FC Hannover fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Achim Pfennig should have stopped the shot. When Uno Vogel fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hannover 96's protests and gave Uno Vogel a yellow card for diving instead. In the 47th match minute, Hannover 96 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Uno Vogel to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Ruben Sommer made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, 1. FC Hannover's goal looked a bit too open when Ruben Sommer came free, but Achim Pfennig reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Johann Werger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FC Hannover's zone, Ruben Sommer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Achim Pfennig came out of the goal and Ruben Sommer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 72 played minutes Hannover 96 got a freekick which was hit by René Wald. 76 minutes into the game, Hischam Penneke was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hannover 96's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave 1. FC Hannover the free kick. Connor Kohlert was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Arthur Hauschild. Udo Bankesch made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 84thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Connor Kohlert would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johann Werger in the 87th minute of play forced 1. FC Hannover's goalkeeper Achim Pfennig to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 94 minutes into the match, 1. FC Hannover's goal looked a bit too open when Ruben Sommer came free, but Achim Pfennig reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Uno Vogel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hannover 96's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
