Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Elvis Freese got the match started through his kick off. In the 7th minute, Egmund Weiß hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 9 minutes of play, VfV Hildesheim's Donny Lienemann made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Siegmund Splett was left in no man's land by his defense there! 11 minutes into the match, 1.FC Union Berlin's goal looked a bit too open when Gunter Rössel came free, but Siegmund Splett reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alexander Madl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elvis Freese, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 17 minutes, Andreas von Gartzen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 1.FC Union Berlin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andreas von Gartzen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alexander Madl was a little too slow when Andreas Papies got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 19th minute. The score was now 1-1. After a rather tough play, 1.FC Union Berlin's Erik Fiedler got a free kick in the 24th minute. Donny Lienemann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Siegmund Splett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 29 played minutes 1.FC Union Berlin got a freekick which was hit by Elvis Freese. 1.FC Union Berlin's Elvis Freese was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 32nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Alexander Madl made an important save on a dangerous shot by Andreas von Gartzen in the 36th minute. Siegmund Splett showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Donny Lienemann in the 38th minute of the match. 40 minutes had been played when some careless play by 1.FC Union Berlin's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Winfried Drewes was slow to take the kick. During this time VfV Hildesheim's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on VfV Hildesheim's corner Winfried Drewes fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Siegmund Splett quite easily take care of the ball. In the 43rd minute, 1.FC Union Berlin's Volker Moll seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Volker Moll the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of 1.FC Union Berlin protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Volker Moll had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 42 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for 1.FC Union Berlin! The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.
The wind increased when Gunter Rössel made the kick off in the second half. Donny Lienemann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Andreas von Gartzen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Alexander Madl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Donny Lienemann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 80 minutes, Donny Lienemann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VfV Hildesheim's supporters crossed their fingers, but Donny Lienemann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 1.FC Union Berlin's Siegmund Splett played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gunter Rössel in the 83rd minute of play. Siegmund Splett made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Donny Lienemann sent off a good shot on target. Alexander Madl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andreas von Gartzen in the 91st minute of play. Donny Lienemann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Siegmund Splett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
