With his leg Rachid Dunst managed to avoid a goal in the 7thth minute, when Preussen Krefeld II's Herbert Stube fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Willy Heinrichs hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Herbert Stube's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rachid Dunst was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. In the 19th minute, Frido Schnäbeli ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Oswald Kuch was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 29th match minute, Werder Bremen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Keith Novak to maneuver through the defense. After 32 played minutes Werder Bremen got a freekick which was hit by Keith Novak. In the 36thth minute of the game Herbert Stube who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Werder Bremen's Rachid Dunst was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Täve Echterhoff came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Preussen Krefeld II fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Täve Echterhoff couldn't finish the play. 40 minutes into the match, Werder Bremen's goal looked a bit too open when Joachim Euskirchen came free, but Rachid Dunst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Herbert Stube in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rachid Dunst saved Werder Bremen from getting behind. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Frido Schnäbeli made a kick off. After 52 played minutes Werder Bremen got a freekick which was hit by Willy Heinrichs. Herbert Stube fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rachid Dunst having to interfere. Rachid Dunst stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Herbert Stube's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. Jörn Grosser sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Herbert Stube in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rachid Dunst prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Preussen Krefeld II booed when Werder Bremen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Björn Isele didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 80 played minutes Werder Bremen got a freekick which was hit by Heiko Wohlert. The excitement rose when Preussen Krefeld II's Dominik Althenn after 81 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for Werder Bremen's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 1-2. Herbert Stube blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rachid Dunst having to make a save. Dominik Althenn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rachid Dunst having to interfere. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Although Preussen Krefeld II had been in control for most of the match, Werder Bremen still came away with the win.
