The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The crowd rose to their feet as Rüdiger Gil kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Bruno Gapp. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. Ulli Gruber's late challenge caught a FC Boss Mannheim's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ulli Gruber helped the player get up and apologised. After 8 played minutes SV Blumen Osterfeld got a freekick which was hit by Ulli Gruber. After a rather tough play, SV Blumen Osterfeld's Kristian Körth got a free kick in the 10th minute. When Niko Lüttges fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SV Blumen Osterfeld's protests and gave Niko Lüttges a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, SV Blumen Osterfeld's Niko Lüttges got a free kick in the 12th minute. 16 minutes into the match, SV Blumen Osterfeld's goalkeeper Bruno Gapp had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Karl Labauve. The audience was convinced that Arno Melzer's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fidel Peukert was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. In the 20th minute Rüdiger Gil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bruno Gapp saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 23rd minute of the match Kristian Körth shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fidel Peukert showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ulli Gruber fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fidel Peukert having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Arno Melzer's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fidel Peukert was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. After 32 played minutes FC Boss Mannheim got a freekick which was hit by Rüdiger Gil. Bruno Gapp made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Niels Rother in the 34th minute of play. Niels Rother could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Bruno Gapp made a huge save. SV Blumen Osterfeld's Bruno Gapp proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save SV Blumen Osterfeld from getting a goal against them. In the 44th minute of the match Detlef Jaschke shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bruno Gapp showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arno Melzer in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fidel Peukert saved FC Boss Mannheim from getting behind. 48 minutes into the match, Karl Labauve had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bruno Gapp. SV Blumen Osterfeld's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Karl Labauve was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rüdiger Gil to make the kick off. Arno Melzer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 64 minutes into the match, FC Boss Mannheim's goalkeeper Fidel Peukert had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arno Melzer. Joseph Geenen hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. In the 67th minute, Kristian Körth got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. SV Blumen Osterfeld's David Schmelzer managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Vladimir Steinbrück in the 69 minute of the game. Arno Melzer struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Fidel Peukert didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SV Blumen Osterfeld. Bruno Gapp took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Niels Rother, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 90 minutes into the game, FC Boss Mannheim's Karl Labauve nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bruno Gapp made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. 94 minutes into the match, SV Blumen Osterfeld's goal looked a bit too open when Burkhard Avenarius came free, but Bruno Gapp reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arno Melzer blasted a shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fidel Peukert having to make a save. Arno Melzers short, quick shot in the 99thth minute got Fidel Peukert to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. SV Blumen Osterfeld's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because FC Boss Mannheim had won, even though SV Blumen Osterfeld had held more of the ball.
