Julius Tiede kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Günter Betz charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The crowd rose to their feet as Carsten Basing kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jürn Häusle. That made the score 1-0 in the 17 minute of play. Neo Lötzsch hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Alexander Leutheusser hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Carsten Basing in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jürn Häusle saved Hersfelder Jungs from getting behind. After 34th play minutes Neo Lötzsch shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Jürn Häusle and just under the crossbar into goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Neo Lötzsch got free with Jürn Häusle in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rudi Hachmann in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jürn Häusle saved Hersfelder Jungs from getting behind. Jürn Häusle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rudi Hachmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 43rd minute, Arsenal Köln's Rudi Hachmann dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. Jürn Häusle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carsten Basing in the 47th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Carsten Basing in the 54th minute of play forced Hersfelder Jungs's goalkeeper Jürn Häusle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 59th minute Carsten Basing shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jürn Häusle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Neo Lötzsch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jürn Häusle having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 72 minutes, Carsten Basing put it in 4-0 from a short distance just to the right of Jürn Häusle. The audience was convinced that Neo Lötzsch's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jürn Häusle was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. Matthias Pfitzner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 85th minute, Carsten Basing ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jürn Häusle was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. Carsten Basing fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jürn Häusle having to interfere. Carsten Basing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Arsenal Köln fully deserved thier win.
