Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) 5 minutes into the game, Jaap Diepmans threw the ball into play from the sideline. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Robbie Hendle quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After 6 minutes, Norbert Nooke mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Elterlein and the Borussia Mönchengladbach players grew even worse after the yellow card. Norbert Nooke hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. 7 minutes into the match, Elterlein's goal looked a bit too open when Miguel Wonsak came free, but Hugo Kalitta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Benno Huermann fell near the penalty area in the 8th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Elterlein's protests and gave Benno Huermann a yellow card for diving instead. After 8 played minutes Elterlein got a freekick which was hit by Benno Huermann. 11 minutes into the game, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Dirk Höltgen nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hugo Kalitta made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Norbert Nooke kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After 24 played minutes, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Miguel Wonsak shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Hugo Kalitta came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Borussia Mönchengladbach reached it. Hugo Kalitta came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Mönchengladbach's Dieter Urner. But to his dismay, Dieter Urner quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 28thth minute of the game Günther Kröger who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Elterlein's Hugo Kalitta was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Hugo Kalitta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dirk Höltgen in the 30th minute of play. After 39 minutes, Tim Maaßen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Elterlein and the Borussia Mönchengladbach players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Elterlein getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Tim Maaßen hit a great ball. In the 44th minute, Hasso Wochele got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After the first half Borussia Mönchengladbach were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 51st minute, Günther Kröger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benno Huermann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Konstanty Pisarcik tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Hasso Wochele fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Elterlein's protests and gave Hasso Wochele a yellow card for diving instead. The audience was convinced that Günther Kröger's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hugo Kalitta was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Bastian Krafft's late challenge caught a Borussia Mönchengladbach's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bastian Krafft helped the player get up and apologised. In the 57th match minute, Elterlein was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bastian Krafft to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Hasso Wochele managed to get in a good position for a shot. Elterlein's supporters rose to their feet, but Hasso Wochele was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Konstanty Pisarcik breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Elterlein's Hugo Kalitta got control of the ball when Dirk Höltgen tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dieter Urner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugo Kalitta having to interfere. In the 72nd minute, Benno Huermann ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Konstanty Pisarcik was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. Konstanty Pisarcik showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hasso Wochele in the 81st minute of the match. Johannes Koch kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Günther Kröger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Konstanty Pisarcik showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hasso Wochele, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Norbert Nooke took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 92nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Konstanty Pisarcik. Borussia Mönchengladbach's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Konstanty Pisarcik showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benno Huermann in the 93rd minute of the match. When the match was over Borussia Mönchengladbach could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Elterlein throughout the match.
