An unexpectedly hard shot by Oskar Weiß in the 8th minute of play forced Schalke 04's goalkeeper Friedel Rack to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Jerzy Christ had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 16 minutes into the match, Schalke 04's goal looked a bit too open when Frank Frenzle came free, but Friedel Rack reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Schalke 04's zone, Oskar Weiß stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Friedel Rack came out of the goal and Oskar Weiß tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Frank Frenzle in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Friedel Rack prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gedeon Freitag acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 30th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Patrick Niebel. Nils Babylon charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nils Babylon the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Nils Babylon hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Oskar Weiß received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Friedel Rack tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Friedel Rack showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frank Frenzle in the 41st minute of the match. Frederik Naumann hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Schalke 04's Frederik Neugebauer shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 45th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Gedeon Freitag but with some difficulty. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Oskar Weiß got free with Friedel Rack in the 82nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 83rd minute, Frank Frenzle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Friedel Rack made an important save on a dangerous shot by Oskar Weiß in the 85th minute. Friedel Rack took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frank Frenzle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 93rd minute Frank Frenzle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Friedel Rack saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
