Ronald Scholz might have been able to make a better finish in the 10th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hardi Musser. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronald Scholz ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of 1.FC Nürnberg booed when FC Oligo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Theo Seuß didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rudolf Pott acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 17th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ralf Bülau. After 20 minutes, Ladislaus Ukrow mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the 1.FC Nürnberg and the FC Oligo players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Hartmut Georgii managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Oligo's supporters rose to their feet, but Hartmut Georgii was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rudolf Pott breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 1.FC Nürnberg's Ladislaus Ukrow got his second yellow card of the match in the 25th minute. The FC Oligo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. In the 42nd minute, Hartmut Georgii got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ronald Scholz struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Hardi Musser didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for 1.FC Nürnberg. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edo von Witzendorff to make the kick off. Hardi Musser didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 53rd minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. After 88 played minutes, FC Oligo's Odilo Wally shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rudolf Pott came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Oligo reached it. Hardi Musser made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Ronald Scholz sent off a good shot on target. If Edo von Witzendorff had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FC Oligo's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
