When Ronald Scholz came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the 1.FC Nürnberg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronald Scholz couldn't finish the play. Bernhard Steffel charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bernhard Steffel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 9th match minute, FC Philcity was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernhard Steffel to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute Berthold Burgdorf shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Markus Ankleider saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When FC Philcity's Horst Bechstein in the 18th minute got a chance for a shot 18th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye 1.FC Nürnberg's goalie prevented a goal. Ronald Scholz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 27 minutes into the match, 1.FC Nürnberg's goal looked a bit too open when Horst Bechstein came free, but Rudolf Pott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FC Philcity's Julius Walloch got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, FC Philcity's Rainer Mayer got a free kick in the 31st minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronald Scholz got free with Markus Ankleider in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rudolf Pott came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Philcity's Horst Bechstein. But to his dismay, Horst Bechstein quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The crowd rose to their feet as Berthold Burgdorf kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Markus Ankleider. That made the score 1-1 in the 45 minute of play.

After a defensive mix-up in FC Philcity's zone, Ronald Scholz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Markus Ankleider came out of the goal and Ronald Scholz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Winfried Schilling's late challenge caught a FC Philcity's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Winfried Schilling helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, 1.FC Nürnberg's Winfried Schilling got a free kick in the 54th minute. 56 minutes into the game, Horst Bechstein lined in a short shot 1-2 behind a frustrated Rudolf Pott. After 62 played minutes, FC Philcity's Hermann Kaufhold shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rudolf Pott came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Philcity reached it. In the 64th minute Ronald Scholz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Markus Ankleider saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 68 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Berthold Burgdorf sped through FC Philcity's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Markus Ankleider. In the 73rd minute of the match Romano Kraus shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Markus Ankleider showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 74 played minutes FC Philcity got a freekick which was hit by Bernhard Steffel. Berthold Burgdorf recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Berthold Burgdorf in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Markus Ankleider saved FC Philcity from getting behind. After a rather tough play, FC Philcity's Rainer Mayer got a free kick in the 77th minute. After 82 played minutes Horst Bechstein rounded 1.FC Nürnberg's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-3. A collision led to 1.FC Nürnberg getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Clint Deling hit a great ball. In the 88th minute of the match Hermann Kaufhold shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rudolf Pott showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ronald Scholz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Markus Ankleider tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronald Scholz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Markus Ankleider read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. The 1.FC Nürnberg manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing FC Philcity to win.
