Rudi Uedickoven kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. In the 3rd match minute, Vechta FSV was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Knut Biehl to maneuver through the defense. After 8 played minutes Vechta FSV got a freekick which was hit by Marcel Reckufer. Till Mieth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raimar Kahn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Efraim Caspers in the 18th minute of play forced Vechta FSV's goalkeeper Helmut Gehl to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Efraim Caspers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 24 minutes Vechta FSV's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Yildiz Hildebrand who took care of the corner kick. Yildiz Hildebrand made a great header on Govelin's corner, it was just that Vechta FSV's Helmut Gehl managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 26th minute, Thomas Schnappauf left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Govelin fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Knut Biehl received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Till Mieth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Helmut Gehl showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Efraim Caspers, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Efraim Caspers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 41 minutes into the game, Govelin's Efraim Caspers nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Helmut Gehl made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After the first half Govelin were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Vechta FSV's Helmut Gehl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Efraim Caspers in the 53rd minute of play. Vechta FSV's Helmut Gehl proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save Vechta FSV from getting a goal against them. When Alois Glückler came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Vechta FSV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alois Glückler couldn't finish the play. When Maurizio Reimann fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Govelin's protests and gave Maurizio Reimann a yellow card for diving instead. Maurizio Reimann hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. After having played for 62 minutes, Knut Biehl managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vechta FSV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Knut Biehl was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thomas Schnappauf's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 65thth minute, Helmut Gehl skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Helmut Gehl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Efraim Caspers in the 71st minute of play. Norbert Lienert took the ball and in the 75 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Till Mieth. Till Mieth dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Knut Biehl managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vechta FSV's supporters rose to their feet, but Knut Biehl was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Till Mieth breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Efraim Caspers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Knut Biehl in the 84th minute of play forced Govelin's goalkeeper Till Mieth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 87th minute, Govelin's Efraim Caspers ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Helmut Gehl. Helmut Gehl yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-3. Thomas Schnappauf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Helmut Gehl having to interfere. The Vechta FSV supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Govelin's performance. The match ended with a win for Govelin.
