The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Starbulls Rosenheim getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Christof Elter hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 6 minutes, Korbinian Zeiler took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Willibald Grassow to make any attempt to save it. Rudolf Stiefler's late challenge caught a Starbulls Rosenheim's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rudolf Stiefler helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Unterreit's Rudolf Stiefler got a free kick in the 9th minute. Tilmann Rostock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willibald Grassow having to interfere. Ilja Staudenhöchte kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. 14 minutes into the match, Unterreit's goal looked a bit too open when Korbinian Zeiler came free, but Willibald Grassow reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ennio Strengmann didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Apollo Appel went, in the 16th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Ennio Strengmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Apollo Appel in the 20th minute of play. Unterreit were awarded a corner in the 22th minute after Starbulls Rosenheim's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mark Winkelsett took the corner. Unterreit's Mark Winkelsett was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ennio Strengmann in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Apollo Appel in the 23rd minute of play forced Starbulls Rosenheim's goalkeeper Ennio Strengmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Willibald Grassow made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Korbinian Zeiler in the 25th minute of play. Korbinian Zeiler was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 27th minute. Starbulls Rosenheim's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Ennio Strengmann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rudolf Stiefler, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Tilmann Rostock's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Willibald Grassow read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. In the 37th minute Harold Frentzen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Willibald Grassow saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Korbinian Zeiler in the 38th minute of play forced Unterreit's goalkeeper Willibald Grassow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 40 minutes into the match, Harold Frentzen notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Unterreit's Willibald Grassow. Willibald Grassow was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Harold Frentzen charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Harold Frentzen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Korbinian Zeiler scored 3-1 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Willibald Grassow, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Apollo Appel stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Korbinian Zeiler made a precise shot to the right of Willibald Grassow. Unterreit's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. Gideon Götz's late challenge caught a Starbulls Rosenheim's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gideon Götz helped the player get up and apologised. Gideon Götz hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. After having played for 70 minutes, Rudolf Stiefler managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Unterreit's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rudolf Stiefler was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Starbulls Rosenheim's Ennio Strengmann got control of the ball when Rudolf Stiefler tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Tilmann Rostock ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Willibald Grassow was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-2. Willibald Grassow didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Korbinian Zeiler went, in the 77th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-2 was the resulting score. Willibald Grassow took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Korbinian Zeiler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Willibald Grassow showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Harold Frentzen, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. In the 86th minute, Harold Frentzen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Willibald Grassow was frozen by the shot and now it was 7-2. The Starbulls Rosenheim fans cheered their team off the field, for while Unterreit had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
