Roger Oppenheim, 15 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. If Toralf Schwarz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 22 minutes, Manuel Gemar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Borussia Dortmund and the Obersgegen players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Borussia Dortmund! In the 23rd minute there was a penalty for Obersgegen. Roger Oppenheim stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Tim Kreissler. 1-1. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Toralf Schwarz took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Tim Kreissler to make any attempt to save it. Adolf Pfau might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erasmus Strauch. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adolf Pfau ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Obersgegen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norbert Wöhrle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Obersgegen's Toralf Schwarz got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Philipp Fröhlich sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Clint Knipprath stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Toralf Schwarz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Philipp Fröhlich recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Toralf Schwarz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tim Kreissler having to interfere. 62 minutes into the match, Obersgegen's goal looked a bit too open when Clint Knipprath came free, but Erasmus Strauch reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Obersgegen's Philipp Fröhlich got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tim Kreissler took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Toralf Schwarz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Philipp Fröhlich had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
