The audience thought a goal was coming when Bastian Neuwinger got free with Tim Kreissler in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Clint Knipprath scored 0-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tim Bache, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 20th minute, Calvin Borchert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dag Weiß kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. Bastian Neuwinger in the 25thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Tim Kreissler, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Bastian Neuwinger who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 31stth minute tested the skills of Tim Kreissler when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Heinz-Gerd Hergt didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Calvin Borchert from long distance, 39 minutes into the match, got Tim Kreissler's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Bastian Neuwinger kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Bastian Neuwinger managed to get in a good position for a shot. UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN's supporters rose to their feet, but Bastian Neuwinger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tim Kreissler breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Bastian Neuwinger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bastian Neuwinger was the one to do the kick off. Bastian Neuwinger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Tim Kreissler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 53rd minute, Toni Berlingen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Christo Olaidotter came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Christo Olaidotter couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Borussia Dortmund's zone, Bastian Neuwinger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tim Kreissler came out of the goal and Bastian Neuwinger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dag Weiß hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bastian Neuwinger in the 64th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Tim Kreissler to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tim Kreissler stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bastian Neuwinger's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. Dag Weiß recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bastian Neuwinger's late challenge caught a Borussia Dortmund's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bastian Neuwinger helped the player get up and apologised. In the 69th match minute, UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bastian Neuwinger to maneuver through the defense. If Bastian Neuwinger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Bastian Neuwinger came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bastian Neuwinger couldn't finish the play. If Gideon Schreiber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Clint Knipprath scored to the left of an out of position Tim Bache, making the score, 1-2. Tim Kreissler showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bastian Neuwinger, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Bastian Neuwinger might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tim Kreissler. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bastian Neuwinger ran back to his position shaking his head. Christo Olaidotter struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Tim Kreissler didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN. After a rather tough play, UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN's Dag Weiß got a free kick in the 95th minute. The UNION LÜDINGHAUSEN manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Borussia Dortmund to win.
