Fortunatus Vengels was a little too slow when Niko Pirkner got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 39th minute. The score was now 1-2. In the 45th match minute, Galatasaray was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horst Herdzik to maneuver through the defense. In the 46th minute, Nestor Ermentraut hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Horanspor were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. In the 85th minute of the match Rudolf Hohenzollern sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fortunatus Vengels skillfully saved the ball. Murat Gall kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. 89 minutes into the game, Rüdiger Scheuermann cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Fortunatus Vengels was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ralph Metzger got free with Gottlieb Dilling in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Horanspor's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
