He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Opperz reached it. In the 9th minute Claudio Flöge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gregor Thorbrügge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luis Hommertgen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ralph Nieberg in the 10th minute of the match. After having played for 12 minutes, Claudio Flöge managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Schötmar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claudio Flöge was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Joachim Küpper-Adebisi got free with Gregor Thorbrügge in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gregor Thorbrügge was out of position in the 20 minute of play, and Joachim Küpper-Adebisi capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. The Schötmar fans cheered their team off the field, for while Opperz had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
