Christoph Ziervogel charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Union Berlin's Alvar Bohmann got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alfred Wewers to make the kick off. Union Berlin's Reik Peeger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Holger Behrendt in the 57th minute of play. Andy Dittrich hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Alvar Bohmann who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 61stth minute tested the skills of Tillmann Haug when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Reik Peeger took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfred Wewers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Holger Behrendt in the 67th minute of play forced Union Berlin's goalkeeper Reik Peeger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Union Berlin's zone, Alfred Wewers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Reik Peeger came out of the goal and Alfred Wewers tried to chip the ball over his head. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
